return of the Vivitar V3800N – a manual 35mm single lens reflex model priced from $169 to $199 (MSRP) depending on the package. The camera utilizes the

The V3800N had been all but discontinued before Sakar purchased the Vivitar brand last year and resumed volume manufacturing of the camera in response to

retailer and consumer requests. There had been no comparable camera on the retail market for several years, making it difficult for those wanting to

learn core photography skills such as setting aperture and mechanical shutter controls to pursue their interests.

The return of the camera is part of Sakar’s larger strategy to leverage the reputation of the 71-year-old Vivitar brand to expand its footprint in the

camera business. Vivitar was founded in 1938 and has long been a manufacturer leader of both digital and film cameras, including a broad digital

camera line spanning entry-level VGA cameras to 12-megapixel cameras with zoom optics for the amateur and serious digital photographer.

The Vivitar V3800N comes with either a 50mm lens or a 28-70mm zoom lens,depth-of-field preview, bright viewfinder with split-image focusing,

multi-exposure capability, 10-second self-timer, and X Contact hot shoe for add-on flash. It features shutter speeds of 1 to 1/2000 sec, accepts ISO

25-3200 film speeds, and includes a quick-release ‘K’ type bayonet lens mount that can accommodate additional lenses. It weighs 15.7 oz (445 grams) and

measures 5.3″W x 3.3″H x 1.9″D.

The camera is shipping in three packages: with a 50mm lens, with a 28-70mm zoom lens, and with a 50mm lens bundled with a flash, UV protective filter,

roll of black and white film, and a rugged gadget bag. All packages come with a fitted camera case, neckstrap and lens cap.
